Overview
Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Draa Valley – Zagora
Embark on an early morning adventure from your hotel or Riad, venturing through the majestic Tizi N Tichka mountains (2260m) and witnessing the beauty of authentic Berber villages. Before reaching Ouarzazate, we’ll explore the historic Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an exemplar of Morocco’s earthen clay architecture. In Ouarzazate, we’ll visit the remarkable Taourirt Kasbah, another UNESCO-listed masterpiece.
Next, we’ll venture towards the enchanting Drâa valley, leading us to the captivating town of Zagora. Here, we’ll delight in a camel ride to experience a mesmerizing sunset in the desert. Our night will be spent in a traditional nomad tent, embracing the true essence of desert hospitality.
Day 2: Zagora – Tamegroute – M’hamid – Erg Chegaga
After a hearty breakfast, our journey continues to Tamegroute, an original town from the 16th-century dynasty. Historically a center of learning and religion, the village is renowned for its Sufi zawiya, an important spiritual hub. We’ll then head to M’hamid, a Saharan village, before embarking on an off-road track to Erg Chegaga. There, we’ll experience the magic of camel rides and the surreal beauty of a desert sunset from the dunes. A traditional tagine dinner, refreshing mint tea, and enchanting Berber music under the stars will create cherished memories. We’ll spend the night in traditional nomad tents.
Day 3: Erg Chegaga – Foum Zguid – Taznakhte – Marrakech
As the sun rises, we’ll wake up early for an unforgettable camel ride to witness the desert’s panoramic horizon from the dunes’ peak. After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll follow the old Paris Dakar road to Foum Zguid, crossing the vast dry lake of Iriqui. A delightful lunch awaits in Taznakhte, a Berber village renowned for its exquisite artisan weaving carpets. Finally, we’ll head back to Marrakech, concluding our extraordinary desert journey.
